Carl Jenkinson Eyes Regular Gametime – What Potential Arrival Of La Liga Youngster Could Mean For Arsenal Full-Back

Arsenal have already announced the signing of Alexis Sanchez, making it the one of the best ever starts to a summer for the Gunners in my opinion. It must be nice for fans of the North London club to see them competing with big teams and making a mega-money move for someone who starred at the World Cup and for Barcelona last season. It is very unusual for the Gunners to make a signing like this. However, it could be argued that Sanchez isn’t a player that Arsenal particularly need.

Another position that needs addressing is goalkeeper, and they are sorting out the situation on that front by chasing Victor Ospina to be a back-up to Wojciech Szczesny. Mathieu Debuchy is set to replace Bacary Sagna and a new defensive midfielder is also being sought to add depth in that position. There is, though, a new name to add to the list of players that the Gunners could sign in the coming weeks.

The Express have linked Javier Manquillo of Atletico Madrid with a season-long loan move to Arsenal as Arsene Wenger looks to make sure that the right-hand side of defence is covered properly. However, the Spaniard is just 20 years of age and is younger than Carl Jenkinson, raising questions about the future of the defender who has one cap for England.

Jenkinson should count his blessings that it is not a permanent deal, as that could spell the end of his time at Arsenal. As it is only rumoured to be a loan, the former Charlton man could be sent out on loan himself.

For me, this is the best he could hope for. The full-back needs a good run in a Premier League team as he has proven that he is a good player. However, if he does go on loan then Arsenal need cover to support Debuchy. Hector Bellerin isn’t quite ready for that role just yet, but pre-season should give us a good indication.
