Former Red Devils Star Recommends Aston Villa Defender – Why Ron Vlaar Could Be The Man Manchester United Need

Manchester United’s defence is on area that looks set for a major reshuffle this season.  Long-serving centre-backs Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic have already left the club, and Patrice Evra is rumoured to be another possible departure.  According to former Red Devils defender Paul McGrath, one man who could fit in well in the side’s backline is Aston Villa’s Ron Vlaar.

McGrath told Talksport that the Netherlands international, who recently helped his country finish third at this summer’s World Cup in Brazil, has the experience that would strengthen the defence under new manager Louis van Gaal.  The combined youth of the players currently at United’s disposal was a main concern of the man who represented the club during the 1980s.

Vlaar has 31 caps for the Netherlands and played 127 games in the Eredivisie.  Since leaving his homeland, he has featured 50 times in the Premier League, being one of Villa’s most dependable players as the club have continued to hover just above the relegation zone.

The Villains would be reluctant to lose one of their key men, but a move to United could well be tempting for Vlaar.  Although there are currently no reports of van Gaal making a bid, it will interesting to see if the club listen to their former player’s advice.
