The loss of Luis Suarez is going to affect Liverpool next season. Exactly how much it affects them depends on the actions they take prior to the transfer window slamming shut on the opening day of September.
Rickie Lambert arrived before the Reds’ Uruguayan star left for Barcelona, but he and fellow England international Daniel Sturridge are currently the club’s only real options up front. Uncertainty surrounds the future of Fabio Borini, for whom Liverpool were rumoured to have accepted a £14 million bid from Sunderland.
Whether the Italian striker leaves Anfield may end up impacting another potential deal. According to the Daily Mail, Loic Remy has been given permission to talk to Liverpool regarding an £8.5 million move from Loftus Road. A fee for the QPR forward, who spent last season on loan at Newcastle, it believed to have been agreed.
Remy impressively scored 14 times in just 26 Premier League games for the Magpies, leaving him with a goal ratio of better than one in two. The price which Liverpool have reportedly agreed to sign the France international for would make him a bargain, and someone offering them more than that for Borini at the same time, who was nowhere near as prolific, just seems bizarre.
The Reds may need to make room for a new striker if they are to sign one. The potential sale of Borini is something many fans would be happy with given the rumoured figures, especially if the money is used to sign Remy with some still left over. As the transfer window begins to heat up, it will be interesting to see if either of those things happen.
