Arsenal are finally set to sign a striker according to reports in English Media Outlet Express, the player in the name being being Napoli’s World Cup star Eduardo Vargas.
According to reports in Chile in La Tercera the 24-year-old attacker has confided in his friends that he wants to join the Gunners instead of Valencia. The Reports from the Express claim that the Partenopei have set a £9m price tag on the player which Wenger is reportedly happy to meet after stressing the importance to make quality additions before the transfer window slams shut.
Vargas isn’t exactly in Rafa Benitez’s scheme of thing at the Stadio Sao Paolo and are willing to part ways with the player who had a significant impact for Chile in the World Cup in Brazil.
Vargas’ future seemed secure at Naples where he would get a second chance after his irregular showings in 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 seasons, in which he played 28 games and scored just three times.
The player was loaned to Valencia last term and even though the Spanish side are willing to take the player on a permanent deal, Vargas’ destination most likely seems to be at Emirates. However it will be only on a loan deal. Metro however have added to the spice by sticking their neck out saying that Vargas’ representatives will soon travel to London to complete the formalities of personal terms and a medical ahead of a season-long switch.
Negotiations could be complete as early as the middle of the next week and Vargas would no doubt be an effective addition for the Gunners. An attacking midfielder, Vargas can also play as a second striker and his immense pressing abilities on the ball and his tireless off the ball movements would be superb for Arsenal on a loan deal. Moreover, Olivier Giroud needs a striker alongside him who can also take take the responsibility of scoring goals.
Vargas’ finishing abilities as documented in Brazil is flamboyant and should Arsenal get the player on loan, it would be a great one season solution.
