Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has admitted that he expects activity in the transfer market before the deadline on Monday night. The Dutch legend however has given no guarantees but he is certain that a plethora of transfers are in the pipeline with ins and outs reportedly possible before the transfer window slams shut. Van Gaal however wan’t drawn to take names as he believed that doing so would raise the value in the inflated transfer market. He stated, “I cannot say anything about that [the market] because it will raise the price.”

United face an away trip to promoted side Burnley in their search for the win of the season after being humbled at home in the opening day of the season against Swansea and then getting only a point at the Stadium of light against Sunderland before their second string side were humiliated by 4-0 at the hands of Championship side MK Dons in the Capital One Cup.

The Times report that United will now challenge Arsenal to bring in William Carvalho from Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon as Van Gaal is desperate to being in a central defensive midfielder to haul his midfield after reports suggest that the Red Devils have hit a potential stumbling block to sign Arturo Vidal from Juventus.

The Portuguese side earlier were refusing to baulk their €45 million (about £36 million) stipulated in the 22-year-old’s contract but they are now ready to do business at a lower price. United will try to do all they can to do business at €30m after they also signed Marcos Rojo from Sporting and believe that the cash deal would be enough to entice the club and the player to pursue his career at Old Trafford.

United are also believed to be in for Ajax man and World Cup star Daley Blind, a player who can feature in a variety of positions from left wing back to central defensive midfield and thus will suit Van Gaal’s 3-5-2 set up at Manchester.
