REPORT: Arsenal Target Undergoes Knee Surgery

Real Madrid have revealed on their website that midfielder Sami Khedira has successfully undergone an arthroscopic revision on his left knee. The surgery was conducted by Dr. Ulrich Boenisch at the Hessingpark Clinic in Augsburg under the supervision of Dr. Jesús Olmo. Khedira was recovering from a muscle injury and was expected to return in late November, and knowing the fact that he’ll be out till then, he decided to undergo the surgery on his left knee.

The 27-year old ruptured his right knee’s cruciate ligament in a friendly against Italy last year and was subsequently out of action for close to five and half months. He recovered in time for the World Cup, but missed a majority of the season with his club Real Madrid who went on to win the Copa Del Rey and the Champions League.

Earlier in the week, German Football Association’s technical director, Oliver Bierhoff, accused Real Madrid of negligence as he felt that the midfielder was already nursing an injury.

Bierhoff said to Bild, “The player already had problem when he travelled to Germany. And what’s more, he had already been examined by doctors in Madrid. They didn’t consider it to be a serious injury!

“After that, Khedira decided to consult a reliable doctor here (and he) diagnosed a muscle tear,” he added.

On the other hand, Real Madrid reported that the German international picked up the injury with Germany.

The absence of Khedira will be a big blow for Madrid as they have struggled to plug the gap of conceding goals. The German is a good player to have in the midfield as he covers a lot of ground and is a good tackler; an ideal partner for Luka Modric or Toni Kroos who are known more for their playmaking roles from deep rather than their tackling.

The former Stuttgart man has been restricted to just 93 appearance at the Bernabeu due to small niggling injuries here and there. He was linked with Arsenal over the summer but a move failed to materialize.
