Chelsea Injury Update: Diego Costa’s Fate Yet To Be Decided For The Swansea Clash

Chelsea striker Diego Costa’s participation in the upcoming clash with Swansea City is under jeopardy as the Spaniard will have to pass a late fitness test.

The £32m striker was set to miss the game against Everton at Goodison Park which Chelsea won 6-3, but went on to play and even scored twice. However, this time around it might not be the same as the 25-year old withdrew from the Spain squad during the international break with a hamstring problem that he initially suffered in the win over Leicester City a few weeks ago.

Manager Jose Mourinho said, “Diego came back injured, but that was last Saturday.

“He had one week to work hard with the medical department. He has a chance to play tomorrow.

“We have a training session now to confirm his condition and to make the final decision.”

The former Atletico Madrid striker, who was named the Player of the month for August, has had a brilliant start to his Premier league career scoring 4 goals in 3 games. Costa’s physicality coupled with his pace and finishing is a potent weapon to have in the Premier League. He was instrumental in Atletico’s League winning campaign last season and was sorely missed in the Champions League final against arch rivals Real Madrid as he suffered an injury to his hamstring just nine minutes into the game. It was mainly due to the fact that he continued playing with an injured hamstring during the final weeks of the season to help Atletico clinch the league title.

Mourinho also revealed that he has got everything that he wanted from the striker, “His profile as a player, his profile also as a person. A player (who) is also part of a team and we knew that the team was going in a certain direction and was waiting for a person like him to be there.

“His start was good. Three matches, three victories and four goals.

“When we bought him we were very optimistic.”

Chelsea signed French striker Loic Remy to replace the departed Fernando Torres and the former QPR man could make his full debut against Swansea if Costa fails in his late fitness test.

Chelsea’s opponents Swansea have started really well in the League as they have won their first three and have conceded just one goal so far. However, Chelsea’s frontline will be a completely different prospect altogether. Gary Monk, who won the Manager of the month award, has got his tactics spot on so far, and if he manages another upset like the one on the opening day, then it’ll definitely be one of the most important feathers in the new manager’s cap. The matchup will be the best attack against the best defence in the Premier league so far, so do expect a close game.
