Arsenal;s defensive woes have reached that certain stage when panic around the club is growing in earnest. If reports from English tabloid Daily Mail is set to believed then, Arsene Wenger is keeping a close eye on free agents Diego Lugano and Joseph Yobo to solve defensive problems. The report comes in the wake of stating that the Gunners had just three senior defender in their embarrassing 2-0 loss to German giants Borussia Dortmund in the first game day of the 2014-15 Champions League tournament.
After having let Thomas Vermaelen join Barcelona in the summer, Wenger is looking for defensive cover to first choice centre back partnership of Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny. While Calum Chambers isn’t that matured as of yet, Wenger would be keen to plug the defensive issues as the London club tries to mount a significant title challenge this season in the premier League.
The Premier League clubs can still sign free agents and Diego Lugano, the Uruguayan who has quite a lot of Premier League experience having featured with West Brom earlier last season is one of the candidates mooted to make the move to the Emirates outfit.Joseph Yobo, who played nine years for Everton before leaving in 2012 is also another name which is doing the rounds at the club’s London Colney HQ. Yobo had also featured for Norwich last season but the player has since then left the club after the Canaries failed to stave off relegation last season.
