According to reports in English tabloid Mirror, Chelsea and Liverpool are ready to battle off in the field in the upcoming transfer window for acquiring the signature of German wonder-kid Julian Brandt from Bayer Leverkusen. The story claims that both Chelsea and Liverpool had sent scouts to watch the 18-year-old attacking midfielder, who is regarded as one of the most hottest prospects in Europe currently. It is also believed that Reds manager Brendan Rodgers has already been to watch him in person which pretty much shows the Anfield side’s interest in the player.
Mirror however claims that Brandt will stay in Germany and continue to develop for the foreseeable future though before making a move to either of the two Premier League giants. While Chelsea have a plethora of talent in midfield, it makes little sense to get the player and then be loaned out away from Stamford Bridge. The interest of both the clubs stems from the fact that he impressed at the European Under-19 Championships in Hungary.
Having broken through at the Bay Arena last season, Brandt will look to impress new manager Roger Schmidt, who has had a terrific start to the Bundesliga season. The player also has five years left on his current deal and thus would want to settle in his native country before making a move to the riches of the premier League.
