Both Manchester United and Arsenal have received a massive boost in their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels. Bothe Louis Van Gaal and Arsene Wengee want to strengthen their side’s defensive back line in January and have looks at the World Cup winner as the perfect player to suit the bill. Hummels was linked with United for much of the summer transfer window but Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp laughed off the speculations.
However, today’s reports from English media outlet DAILY EXPRESS claims that Hummels has suggested if he were to join a bigger club than Dortmund they would have to play attractive passing football. Hummels claimed “If a club with a bigger reputation than Dortmund were to make a move, but I don’t like the way they play football, I wouldn’t even consider a move. At Dortmund, the style of play is exactly like I want to play football.”
While United’s defense has looked absolutely in shatters, Arsenal too would do with an upgrade over Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker. Hummels would easily fit in either sides. However the latest piece of news will really come as a surprise for Dortmund fans as Hummels has earlier insisted that he isn’t willing to move to the riches of the Premier League. Of Arsenal and United’s relentless links, Hummels said that it was more of a compliment and the rumours doesn’t influence him as he earns significantly at the Westfallenstadion outfit.
“There will always be someone who can pay more than my current club. But Dortmund have made a lot of progress during my time here.”
