Emre Can
Football has evolved with time and the importance of specialist defensive midfielders has never been higher in the sport than it is today. At about £10m, Liverpool have signed from Bayer Leverkusen, possibly, the successor to the quarter back role Steven Gerrard currently occupies. The German uder-21 international is a physically imposing midfielder who is at ease with the ball at his feet in tight areas. A tireless runner, Can finished last season second only to a certain Jordan Henderson in terms of average distance covered every game.
Having swapped Leverkusen for Liverpool on the back of some very kind words from his previous manager and Reds legend Sami Hypia, Emre Can arrives at Anfield with a reputation to live up to. While his chances in the first team have been very few so far, partially down to the unfortunate injury he picked up while away on international duty, Reds fans have seen enough to be excited about the prospect of having a midfielder who can stand tow-to-toe to the likes of Yaya Toure and Nemanja Matic in terms of physicality.
