Premier league sides Arsenal and Liverpool will not only have to compete with each other for Marseille striker Andre-Pierre Gignac but also with Russian side Dynamo Moscow. Reports have emerged in France that the French striker has attracted a lot of interest in Europe as his irresistible form for his side hasn’t gone unnoticed.
Dynamo Moscow signed his team mate Mathieu Valbuena a few months ago and will try to sign Gignac in January. The 28-year old’s contract expires in the summer which could mean that he’ll be sold for a cut-price fee come January if he doesn’t agree on a new deal with the club.
Both Arsenal and Liverpool are still slight favorites to sign him ahead of Moscow as he’ll definitely like the idea of playing in the Premier league in his prime. The striker cost Marseille €16m in 2010 and since then he has gone on to score 64 times in 162 appearances for the club. Though the record doesn’t sound good, Gignac never had the chance to play with quality teammates, something that he is able to do now. New manager Marcelo Bielsa has helped Gignac by playing a very dynamic and pressing style.
Both Arsenal and Liverpool have struggled for consistency this season especially the latter who have found it hard to score goals without the departed Luis Suarez and the injured Daniel Sturridge. New signing Mario Balotelli has struggled and is yet to score in the Premier league. A new striker is definitely a priority come January and manager Brendan Rodgers will not want to lose out on Gignac.
Arsenal have struggled defensively this season but their poor injury record means that they will have to strengthen upfront as well. With a plethora if French players at the club, and with Arsene Wenger at the helm, they could be favorites to sign Gignac despite Moscow and Liverpool’s interest.
