Manchester United could lose the chance to sign Wesley Sneijder as the Galatasaray midfielder is being linked with a loan move to Serie A side AC Milan.
Sneijder was being linked with a move elsewhere in the last month or so after he hadn’t received his salary. A dispute has recently broken out at the club as players receive their salaries late at the club. Sneijder in particular has grown disillusioned with the situation and could move as soon as January with Milan being the prime candidates to sign him on loan until the end of the season.
The potential loan deal could go against United who were hoping to sign the 30-year old for a cut-price fee in the January transfer window. United have lacked a creative edge with the bulk of their goals coming from the wide areas. Manager Louis Van Gaal has deployed Juan Mata in his favored position behind the strikers but he has failed to have any impact whatsoever. Angel Di Maria and Wayne Rooney have done a good job especially the former who has been deployed in a number of positions by Van Gaal. Sneijder is a player who will add a lot of creativity to the side.
Manchester United are keen admirers of Sneijder as they tried to sign him a few seasons ago while Sir Alex Ferguson was at the helm, but it proved futile as he went to Galatasaray for a fee of €7.5m.
Despite Milan’s interest, United will always have a chance as he will find it hard to turn down the Premier league if at all an offer comes in. Since he has just over an year remaining on his contract, he will not cost a fortune. United could certainly use a player of his caliber at the moment as despite playing in the Turkish league, he hasn’t lost his touch.
