Manchester United have a squad of 24 members, which has been enhanced by the number of youth who have been given a chance to prove themselves by Louis van Gaal. Injuries to key players at some places on the pitch have exhausted the squad depth, whereas United have too many players at some positions, which means that chances have come at a premium for some players. A player like Marouane Fellaini made the most of his chance and is now one of the first names on the teamsheet.
Some players have not used their chances well, and are languishing in the sidelines, away from the action. Some others have got into the team due to injuries to key players, but have promptly been dropped as soon as the player is back in the team post-injury. Three players that United could possibly loan out or sell in January, as they are surplus to requirements are:
1. Tyler Blackett – This might be a shocker, as he has been brilliant for United at the back, but with Marcos Rojo, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans back, with Phil Jones and Luke Shaw yet to return from injury, he has not been able to get a chance in the first-team. He should be given a chance to go out on loan, so that he can develop and be a first-choice player at United next season, as his potential will be wasted and he will not gain his confidence if he does not get the continuous first-team action he requires at this stage in his career as a defender.
