Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has revealed that he would like Lionel Messi to play in the Premier League with Manchester City. The Barcelona attacker has been linked with a move away from the club after revealing last month that he cannot rule out anything in the future.
The likes of Chelsea, PSG, Bayern Munich and Manchester City have been linked with the Argentinian but Aguero believes that he can try to tempt Messi to join him at the Etihad, “It will be difficult to convince him, but I will try.
“It would be good if all the great players were in the Premier League,” he told Mundo Deportivo.
Messi is contracted with the club until 2018, but there were reports that he could leave due to the ongoing tax evasion saga. He has won everything there is in club football at Barcelona, and after his side signed the likes of Luis Suarez and Neymar in the last few seasons, there is speculation that Messi could go elsewhere, though they are very premature.
The four-time Ballon d’Or winner had revealed last month, “I live the present. All I am thinking about is making this a great year and winning titles, and that’s it.
“After that, we’ll see. Football is full of unexpected twists and turns … it is true that I said I would like to stay there [at Barcelona] forever, but sometimes not everything turns out the way you want.”
The comments seem to have fuelled the speculation even more as the cash-rich clubs in Europe have taken notice. The likes of PSG, Manchester City, Chelsea and Real Madrid are probably the only ones who could afford his transfer fee and wages.
If Aguero does succeed in convincing Messi to join Manchester City, then it’ll be some achievement. City have signed some high profile players which has helped them become a top side in England if not in Europe, and Messi’s signature will simply reaffirm that fact.
