Manchester City and Arsenal are set to face stiff competition from Chelsea for Borussia Dortmund winger Marco Reus as his relatively low release clause of £19.6m had attracted a lot of interest from the Premier League sides.
Reus rejected a contract earlier in June this year which was a hint that he wants to play his football elsewhere. The 25-year old wanted a move to Barcelona in the last transfer window, but they went and signed Luis Suarez instead. Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp had revealed last month that Reus wants to move abroad, “We had very successful years and we couldn’t keep all these players.
“Not all of them stayed here. They had their own dreams their own situations different ideas, whatever. So we will see (about Reus).”
Chelsea already possess a lot of quality players in wide areas as Andre Schurrle, Willian, Mohammed Salah and Eden Hazard form an impressive squad. Despite that, the blues are not willing to let the opportunity of singing Reus for a fee of £19.6m pass.
Arsenal, Manchester City and their neighbours Manchester United were being linked with the Germany international in the last few weeks. The gunners have been long-term admirers of the winger and it’s likely that they’ll strengthen in January in order to lighten the load from Alexis Sanchez’s shoulders who has been their star player so far. Manchester City too will strengthen their squad as Sergio Aguero’s injury record and the form of the other strikers at the club has been disappointing so far. Manuel Pellegrini’s side have heavily relied on Aguero’s goals which has kept them in contention for the title.
Reus, who has been ruled out until the new year, is contracted with the club until 2017. His ankle injury came at the wrong time for Dortmund who have been struggling in the league and could lose a plethora of stars if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.
