Chelsea Latest: Jose Mourinho Talks About January Signings

Mourinho To Rest Key Players

Talksport have revealed that Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has no plans of adding players to his squad in the upcoming January transfer window. The Blues who are at the top of the Premier League standings won 3-1 against Derby County last night to progress through to the semi finals of the Capital One Cup. The Stamford Bridge side have been linked with Marco Reus and Raphael Varane over the past few weeks but Mourinho has put those rumours to rest.

The Portuguese said, “We have a short squad but we’ve got good players, some younger, some older, but the squad is very, very good. Our project is to start and finish the season with the same group of players, so there will be nobody to leave and nobody to come in either.”

Chelsea are at the top of the Premier League standings and have displayed the form of early season title contenders. Summer signings Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa have come good thus the Blues expect no reinforcements in January.

Young defender Kurt Zouma had to be stretchered off during Chelsea’s win over Derby and when asked about the 20 year old’s condition, Mourinho said, “When I saw Zouma was down, I was scared because we can’t lose any players and certainly not for long periods of time. When John Terry signaled that we needed to change I thought we might be in trouble, but no, happily for us and for the kid, we weren’t. He’s fine, he took a punch from Petr Cech and had a cut inside his mouth, so taking him off was just a precaution. He was fine in the dressing room after.”

So can the Blues win the Premier League title or any silverware with this squad or is Mourinho just adding a smokescreen with deals being done backstage?
