Olympique Lyon’s president Jean-Michel Aulas has revealed that reported Arsenal target Nabil Fekir is not for sale as he has what it takes to become an absolute star at the French club.
Aulas told RMC, “He will remain with us.
“He can become a very good footballer in the next two to three years. Though the comparison is not right, Fekir is our own Messi.”
The attacking midfielder has been in inspired form this season as he has scored six times and assisted four goals in just 14 appearances. Fekir has taken the Ligue 1 by storm this season and is his side’s second highest goalscorer behind Alexandre Lacazette. The 21-year old made his debut last season but appeared in just 11 games. Despite that, he showed signs that he can be a more prominent player this year and done exactly that.
Arsenal under Arsene Wenger are known to go out and buy young players, who have the potential to become stars. The signings of Thierry Henry, Cesc Fabregas, and Robin van Persie underlines that fact.
The French u-21 international had extended his contract in June this year that will keep him at the club until 2019 and he was delighted that he did so, “I am very pleased to sign this contract, the club has a very good training, it is a pleasure for us. My wish? That Lyon win and for me to have playing time and make the most of every possible match.”
The French side have been impressive this season and Fekir has been a key cog in their good run so far. His combination play with Lacazette up front has been important in Lyon’s attacking exploits this season as they find themselves just two points behind league leaders Marseille.
Although he is young, Arsenal fans would love to see him play for their side as he sure looks like a talent who can rise to prominence in the coming few years. Despite Aulas’ statements, Lyon will find it hard to turn down a good offer for the talented attacker.
