Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal revealed that he is different from Sir Alex Ferguson (ignoring his comments) as he wants his side to play well and win the games in perfect way (close to perfect), something that they haven’t done despite winning six games in a row.
Speaking ahead of his side’s clash against Aston Villa, Van Gaal told Sky Sports, “I’m not only focused on results, although of course that’s the main thing. When I speak with Sir Alex he says: ‘There’s no problem – you’ve won’.
“But for me it’s also the performance, because when you perform well you win more. That’s what I want to show to the fans, and the players want to show that, and the guarantee of wins is much bigger when we perform better.
“The team can improve more but I don’t think it was a great surprise that we won [against Liverpool].
“When you win six times in a row the confidence is rising, but I’m still looking for a game that is more close to the perfect game than we have given until now,” he added.
United’s next opponents Aston Villa have lost just one game in their last five matches and could pose a good challenge to their opponent’s six-game winning run. When asked about Villa, Van Gaal commented, “They [Aston Villa] haven’t lost so much. They draw, they win, and when they lose it’s always by a one-goal difference. It shall be very difficult.”
United play Villa before Chelsea’s game on Monday and they could put some pressure on the blues as a win will get them closer to the league leaders. However, any prediction at the moment would be premature as Villa like to play with a counter-attacking style, something that could help them against United who will have more possession of the ball at Villa Park. United’s defence will have to stay vigilant against a Villa side who have a lot of pace up front.
