Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas has revealed that there is no reason why he would want to quit the Spanish capital any time soon despite rumours emerging that his side are looking at the possibility of signing Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea as a long term replacement.

Casillas told Marca, “This has been my best year. We’ve won four titles and I managed to play in all of them.

“It doesn’t get much better than that and I can’t just forget those things because of a bad six weeks.

“I’m taking things one step at a time. I’m under contract here and have no reason to think about leaving.”

Indeed, despite the 33-year old being in shaky form at the time, he picked up a lot of silverware. However, more recently, Casillas has got better and has produced some good displays as he has saved two penalties in the last three games for his side.

Casillas has been linked with a move to the Barclays Premier League recently as the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool are keen on signing him. Both have struggled this season defensively especially the latter who lack a quality keeper on the bench to challenge Simon Mignolet. However, Mignolet’s form has been so bad that manager Brendan Rodgers had no option but to drop him for the last two games. Casillas is contracted with the club until 2017 and despite being 33, he could carry on a little bit longer as goalkeepers tend to go on till their late 30’s.

Casillas started his career with the Real Madrid youth team and was promoted to the Real Madrid C and Real Madrid Castilla in the span of one year. He made his debut in 1999 at the age of 18 and since then has been a central figure in the main team. He has made a total of 22 appearances this season and has kept 12 clean sheets in the process.
