Arsenal who have been facing a lot of defensive problems this season, due to the departure of former captain Thomas Vermaelen and a long list of injuries to add to that are planning to make a deal for defender Loic Perrin. The French defender who is currently with Ligue 1 side St Etienne could possibly be the solution to Wenger’s problems for the time being. The 29 year old has confirmed that he has been contacted by the Gunners regarding a possible move to the Emirates. Arsene Wenger has already highlighted how his team are in need of defensive reinforcements and would like the add this versatile defender to his squad if he wants a place in the top four and hopes to retain the FA Cup title.

Perrin is of top priority to the Gunners among the list of defenders that Wenger is targeting in the January transfer window and is priced at around £6m. He is also a natural centre-back like Vermaelen, but can play at right back and in defensive midfield too, which is the main attraction for the Gunners boss. In a recent  interview Perrin told Le Progres, “I was contacted personally. Arsenal are interested, but for now, there is still no contact with Saint-Etienne.”

The French defender has spent his whole career with St Etienne, and has already proved he can score goals as well with 21 strikes so far in his league career, including six last season. Also, the club has invited an offer from Arsenal in the past few days, with Saint Etienne coach Christophe Galtier revealing they would listen to a “surprising offer” with Perrin to be the subject of interest during the transfer window. If Wenger does intend on signing the player, he definitely has the green signal from both player and club and what happens next shall be seen soon as the transfer season proceeds further.
