Italian Giants Lead The Race Ahead Of Chelsea And Manchester United To Sign Brazilian Defender

Joao Miranda

Chelsea and Manchester United have been in the hunt for Atletico Madrid’s center back Miranda for some time now. Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea and Spanish giants Barcelona had been tracking him during the summer but a deal could not be completed by either of the clubs at that time. Also, since his arrival at Old Trafford, Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has been keen on adding Miranda to his Premier League side or that is what we have been hearing from the rumor mills. Van Gaal, who has already added a few big names to United’s squad this season wishes to acquire the player’s services in order to challenge for the title next season.

At the moment though as things stand, it is believed that AC Milan have not only joined the race but have taken the lead in signing the 30 year old. Atletico Madrid, who have recently just completed a swap deal for Fernando Torres and Alessio Cerci with Milan at the start of the season have built a strong relationship with the Italian side. Based on this new friendship, so as to speak, Milan has now expressed its interest in Miranda and further negotiations are going on.

The former Sao Paulo man, who recently completed 100 appearances for the Spanish champions has made 11 appearances for the club this season and already netted a remarkable 3 goals. Reports suggest that the proposed deal is likely to be confirmed in the summer as Atletico Madrid have center-backs  Diego Godin and Jose Maria Gimenez to replace the departing Miranda. Further questions arising about the Brazilian’s future will only be answered once both the clubs officially confirm the deal has been made or not. At the moment though, as things stand, it looks quite dull for the English clubs with regards to the Miranda deal.
