Apart from Lukas Podolski who has already made a move to Inter, Arsenal have one more star striker who has not been given enough opportunities to prove his worth for the Gunners. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has not used Costa Rican World Cup sensation Joel Campbell to his full potential. The 22-year old striker has tried his best to get into the starting eleven more often but has failed and has not been able to make his mark with the limited opportunities that he has received. Despite all this, reports still suggest that Campbell is set to sign a new contract with the Gunners as Arsenal are quite keen on not letting him leave on a permanent basis.
Campbell was signed by Arsenal in 2011 before being loaned out to Lorient, Real Betis and Olympiakos in consecutive seasons. He has not had a long spell at the Emirates, though Wenger has insisted that Campbell’s World Cup performances did indeed impress him too. The striker has played just a mere 10 games for the Gunners despite all the injury problems that Arsenal has faced during his time at the club. Keeping all this in mind, Campbell has still agreed to signing a contract extension but will be moving away from North London for more game time with Benfica as a possible destination.
Campbell is quite desperate to play regular football and might be completing a move to Spain soon if a deal works out. Former Manchester United boss David Moyes who is at Real Sociedad at the moment said in an interview, “I’d like to add one or two to the squad, but on loan if it can be done. I’ve got one or two in mind and maybe some from back home who would like the opportunity to come and play in Spain. If there’s one market I know best at the moment then it’s the British market.” It remains to be seen which club signs this young talented star as he is up for grabs.
