Chelsea and Manchester United have been linked in recent times with a list of high quality players, they wish to strengthen their squads with. One such speculation would be for Real Madrid’s French defender Raphael Varane. The 21 year struggled to get first team football at the Bernabeu and has been a mere spectator which has resulted in rumours of his departure. Manager Carlos Ancelotti has stuck to the pairing of Ramos and Pepe at the center of his defence, leaving a highly talented Varane benched for most of the season. The Premier League giants look at him as a prospect for the future and wish to draw him away from Spain by offering him first team football. Recent reports now suggest that the Real Madrid boss has acknowledged this interest from the European giants and dismissed any rumour of him leaving the club whatsoever.
The Red Devils have been keen on signing defensive reinforcements right through this season and manager Louis van Gaal has shown interest in the Frenchman. Also, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho would love to be re-united with his former star at Stamford Bridge. Ancelotti however has other plans for the youngster and has claimed that he shall remain in Spain for a long long time.
In a interview with Spanish publication the Italian spoke about the former Lens defender and said, “I’m surprised because I didn’t know Mendes [the agent cited in the rumours] was his agent. Three days ago he had a different agent. Varane will be a Madrid player for a long time,”
Varane joined Real Madrid in 2011 and since has made a total of 47 appearances for them, netting once. With both the Premier League clubs desperate to add to their squads, a high quality defender like Varane, the choice would be his to decide where his future lies ahead.
