Arsenal have been chasing defenders right from the start of this season when the shocking news of a Thomas Vermaelen departure, stunned the Emirates faithfuls. Manager Arsene Wenger still has plans of signing a new world class center-back to ensure a Champions League spot for his side and successfully defend their FA Cup title. Now, in the hunt for the perfect one, The Gunners have come across a talented 24 year old Brazilian defender. The Villarreal center-back Gabriel Paulista is the man who has recently been linked with a potential move to the Emirates. The youngster who has impressed many with his performances in the La Liga with the Spanish side following his move from former club Vitoria, has hinted that he ‘dreams’ of playing in the Premier League soon.
The young Brazilian made a move to Villarreal in 2013 and has now been linked with a move to North London in exchange for a possible loan deal for Costa Rican World Cup sensation Joel Campbell. The Brazilian confirmed Arsenal’s interest in acquiring his services, after his side’s victory over Athletic Bilbao.
In an interview after he match, when asked about these rumours about his future, Gabriel was quoted as saying, “Whether I go to Arsenal or stay at Villarreal, I won’t lose my head. I’m very calm. My head is at Villarreal and I’m very focused. My agent is working on making sure I continue being calm.”
These comments added fuel to the transfer speculations which had previously been lit based on a previous interview by him. Gabriel had spoken previously expressing his desire to play in England and make a permanent move away from Spain. He said, “Playing in the Premier League is one of my dreams. I have spoken to my agent about this.”
Now, whether the Gunners are able to complete a deal for this superstar defender and fill the void in their defence or not, remains to be seen.
