Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has finally admitted that he doubts whether French midfielder Abou Diaby has a future with the club or not. The Frenchman who joined Arsenal from Auxerre in 2006, had made a total of 124 appearances and had scored a tally of 14 goals. The 28-year-old midfielder is out of contract with The Gunners at the end of the season and despite making a positive comeback this season, has failed to make the any impact whatsoever. It now seems that Wenger, who has been quite supportive is finally running out of patience with him.
Diaby has played just once this whole season, in the Capital One Cup against Southampton, which saw The Gunners being knocked out of the competition. Further, Wenger insists that Diaby is nowhere near, full fitness at the moment.
In an interview Wenger said, “At the moment he is not in a position where he will be able to play soon because he is not on the field at all.” Diaby has played a total of just 16 games in the last four years, showing just how sever his injuries still are and the fact that he has not fully recovered yet. And when further asked about his contract situation with the club, Wenger added “I will have a decision to make about his contract.”
Diaby also made his last appearance for the French national team in 2012 and his career, has been recurring injuries over a period of time. Now, the player who was considered a powerhouse at one point of time in his career, remains at the Emirates or not shall be decided by how things plan out in the future. For the moment, the midfielder still remains side-lined as Arsenal hunt for more possible midfield reinforcements in the January transfer window.
