Premier League side Liverpool are looking to make a late swoop for one of their prime targets this season – Argentine forward Ezequiel Lavezzi. Napoli, who had up the pace, in their chase have ruled themselves out at this stage in the transfer window.
Many big European clubs have approached the French champions with an interest in acquiring the 29-year-old’s services, including The Reds. However, one club which now won’t be taking part in his hunt anymore for the winger is his former club and Italian giants Napoli, as confirmed recently. Sporting director Riccardo Bigon admitted the club has enough attacking players already and more additions were not needed. When asked about the possibility of a move for Lavezzi or another further additions to the Naples based club, Bigon told Sky Italia,
“Though we love the player and his qualities, we are well stocked in the attacking department, both in terms of quantity and quality. Lavezzi is not a necessity for us.”
This could be a positive sign for the Merseyside club who have been in the need of more attacking options since the summer signings Mario Balotelli and Ricky Lambert have not been up to the mark. Brendan Rodgers is in the need of more firepower, if he wishes to finish in the top four and qualify for the Champions League next season, which looks like a tough task at hand, at the moment. The Argentine too is looking forward to a new challenge and would like the idea of playing in the Premier League. If Rodgers can complete a deal for the World Cup runner up, things could get quite intense in the race for places in the top half of the Premier League table.
