Liverpool who were still in the hunt for more potential targets as they looked to tackle their problems with striking options have recently received a blow to their ambitions of signing one. The Mirror has reported that 19-year-old Chuba Akpom, who was wanted by Brendan Rodgers has now agreed a four-and-a-half year deal at the Emirates. The striker who is currently at rivals Arsenal, came on as a substitute in their 5-0 demolition of Aston Villa at the Emirates on Sunday.
The England Under-20 international has a contract with The Gunners which is set to expire at the end of the season and has prompted interest from, not just Premier League sides, but also all across Europe. The striker had known this and had been stalling the north London side over talks for a new contract. Manager Arsene Wenger was trying his best to persuade Akpom that remaining at the Gunners was in the best interest for him to continue his development. The striker has been with Arsenal since he was six year old and has been developed into a quality player. The Englishman who has made five appearances for Arsenal this season, was responsible for winning the penalty that led to their fourth goal in the 5-0 rout of Aston Villa. The youngster showcased some quick feet and agility since coming on in that game and caught the eye of the onlookers, as he toyed with the Villa defence. Though the finishing was not up to the mark at times, one would think that improvement and maturity will definitely come with age.
Now, the talks of a possible move had come up as the Merseyside club and German strugglers Borrusia Dortmund had inquired about his services. Recently, all these rumours have now been put to bed as Akpom has reportedly signed a new deal with Wenger’s side, which will ensure his stay at Arsenal, in the near future.
