Arsenal have been in great form in the Premier League in the past few weeks with a lot of their key players returning back to action from injuries. The North London side demolished Aston Villa on Sunday in a 5-0 thumping win at the Emirates, displaying a powerful performance for their home crowd. Now, one man who was missing the action was Arsenal’s Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez who was out with a problem to his thigh region. Recent news suggest that the superstar striker is also set to miss the Gunners’ Premier League trip to local rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
The 26 year old Chile international has scored a tally of 18 goals for The Gunners in all competitions since his £35m summer move from Spanish giants Barcelona. Arsene Wenger had hoped that Sanchez would make it to the squad for the crucial game against Spurs, at the weekend and in an interview when asked about the striker told Arsenal’s website,
“He is not far away, the Leicester game on Tuesday is a possibility”
Despite the drawback, England international striker Danny Welbeck has recovered from his thigh injury and is set to feature for the first time since the 28th of December, last year. The game is quite significant with respect to the Champions League spot and fifth-placed Arsenal will also have to make it without midfielders Jack Wilshere and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Both the superstars are yet to return to full training following their injury lay-offs.
Tottenham are currently placed one spot below Arsenal and with just 2 points separating the teams. A win for either side will lift them temporarily above Southampton who play a bit later in the day, looking to claim back their fourth spot. Which side comes on top on this derby day, remains to be seen.
