Arsenal seem to have been rocked with a transfer deal that would see one of their star players move away from the club in the summer. According to reports from various sources, Atletico Madrid have spoken to Santi Cazorla’s advisers about a summer move from Arsenal.
Cazorla has been one of the standout players for Arsenal this season and losing him would be a big blow, especially to a squad which requires creativity to get the wins. Selling the midfielder for any amount of money would be a big mistake from Arsenal and here are 3 reasons why:
Experience is important
He is 30 years old and that could be one of the reasons why he might want to shift to a league which is not as physically demanding as the Premier League, but experience is a huge factor for any team and in Santi, Arsenal have a player who has bags of it.
They have a pretty young team coming through and they would need to keep as many old heads as they can to help the youngsters come through the team. The likes of Coquelin, Akpom and Paulista all need some wise heads around them and Santi could be one of the leaders who can help these players.
Arsene also does not seem to have a problem giving older players contract extensions as seen with Arteta, so why can’t Cazorla be given one?
One of the best performers for the Gunners this season
Thanks to stats from Squawka.com, Cazorla has ranked as one of the best midfielders not only at Arsenal this season but also in the Premier League. He provides 2.31 key passes per game, more than any other midfielder in the team, just to highlight how good that is, Mesut Ozil is the next best ranked player with 1.8 key passes per game.
He has also played the most number of minutes and games for Arsenal among the midfielders which just shows he still does have the legs to play in the Premier League with 24 appearances in the league alone. He has also scored 6 goals in the league, which is more than Ozil, Ramsey, Wilshere and Rosicky, just showing how good he still is.
Multi-talented & can play in a range of positions
Cazorla is one of those players, who can play in almost any position in attack, although his best work comes from the attacking end, his performances in midfield have been great as well. Cazorla can play as a winger or a central attacking midfielder or just behind the striker linking up with Giroud.
Losing out on such a versatile and talented player, who is also peaking during this time, could be a huge blow for Arsenal, keeping him could be the key to winning something not only for this season but also for the next season.
