Nabil Fekir (Lyon Forward) – Scouting Report

The search for the next big thing continues, while there are some young players available to try out, very rarely do they actually get a regular run at a top club, playing a lot of games. That is something a young attacker has been doing quite well at Lyon this season and has been the perfect partner in crime for the free scoring Alexandre Lacazette.

The 21 year old forward, Nabil Fekir has been on fire for Lyon this season and his performances has been one of the reasons as to why they are at the top of Ligue 1. As it is for any player doing so well for a club, there are bound to be clubs who want to sign him up and the reports suggest that Arsenal are interested in him.

Arsene Wenger does have a good track record with his signing of young players and with Arsenal needing a striker or attacker to help Olivier Giroud; Fekir would be an ideal buy for the French contingent at Arsenal. Who is Fekir and why is he so highly rated?

Breakout season for Lyon

While Fekir made 17 appearances for Lyon last season, he only scored 1 goal; this season however he has been excellent in front of goal and has scored 8 goals in 19 appearances, he has been helped by the movement and link up play with Lacazette though.

Fekir can play either as a winger or a striker with another forward. He is fast and is two footed, a rarity in this day and age as well. Fekir also does track back to help his team when they do not have the ball, but one of his weaknesses is his slight frame which makes it easy for big defenders to push him off the ball. He isn’t the greatest in terms of being a physical presence and thus often loses out a lot of aerial battles and duels.

The French U21 international has been one of the best players out there for Lyon and there already has been talks about him leaving Lyon to join only one club out there and that is Arsenal. Moving to Arsenal would be the best move for the youngster as well, he would not only be having a dressing room which has a lot of French speakers, but his manager is one of the best in the world with regards to nurturing and taking care of talent.

Depending on how fast Arsenal move and this signing could provide the Gunners with yet another quick and talented youngster who has the potential to be something special.
