REPORT: French Midfield Superstar’s Dad Prefers Arsenal Move Over Manchester City

The father of young French attacking midfielder Nabil Fekir has once again gone ahead and told the French media about the concerns regarding his son’s future. The 21-year-old superstar split with his old agents because the family were not happy with their services. One of the main factors for them to be unhappy was due to the contract extension signed with Lyon which will keep him at the club until 2019, paying him just €300k per year. Nabil’s father Mohamed claimed it would have been much better for his son to sign a deal only till 2017, thereby giving him the option of moving away if he wished to.

Further the agency was adamant to make the French striker sign for Manchester City, which angered Mohamed Fekir and Foot Mercato reported him as saying,

“They pushed for him to sign for City. But I told them if he goes to City and finds himself on the bench, it doesn’t interest me, and the kid is not interested either.”

“He loves to play, he does not like to be replaced. And they pushed to sign him for City, that’s why he preferred to stop with them.”

Previously Mohamed Fekir had told Le Parisien,

“Nabil would like to finish 1st or 2nd and play Champions League football with Lyon. If he leaves, it’ll be for Arsenal. It’s the only club that can enable him to progress, with Arsene Wenger. He will not go to Manchester City to sit on the bench.”

Nabil Fekir himself spoke to French newspaper L’Equipe last weekend when asked about his future and a move to the Emirates, he said,

“We’ll see. I didn’t want to leave too soon and then stay on the bench. I am a fighter and I love playing well, I’m not happy if I do not play. It was only my first season at the top level and at Arsenal, with the big players there, it will be difficult to play for them, perhaps. You never know.”
