Reports from BBC have confirmed that Liverpool have accepted a whopping £49m bid from Manchester City for English youngster Raheem Sterling and the player is subject to contract negotiations and a medical.
Sterling, who failed to appear for Liverpool’s pre-season training wanted to move out of Anfield having turned down a £100,000-a-week deal offered by the Merseyside club. The move to Etihad means that he will be the most expensive English youngster in history.
Sterling moved to Liverpool as a 15-year old from QPR, and as a part of the deal the London based club will receive 20% of the £49m that Manchester City are paying Liverpool.
Having made a mess out of his contract situation and forcing a move out of the club, Sterling has been a hot topic on Twitter and other social media as fans raise their voice against the move.
Here are some of the reactions from Twitter and from some former Reds’ players.
£49m is staggering. No wonder managers buy foreign players instead of English. #crazyprices #Sterling
