Arsenal seem to be firing on all cylinders. If anyone saw their recent FA Cup victory over Middlesbrough, it seemed the old attacking Arsenal team was back as they completely dominated the Championship side. Sure, it was just a Championship side but the ease with which Arsenal not only contained the team, which had defeated Manchester City at the Etihad in the last round, but controlled the game even after going 2-0 up showed a lot of maturity, especially for a team that was being questioned about their chances of actually making it into the top 4 or even going on a proper run in a cup competition.
Arsenal are still in the chase for a top 4 finish and are in both the FA Cup and UEFA Champions League, games which are coming up will make or break the season for the Gunners but building for the future starts from now and Arsenal should be preparing for the next transfer window as well since they can sign a few players and snap up good talent early, if they understand which positions in the team need strengthening.
The midfield is perfect, the rest? Not so sure
Arsenal do not need to work on their midfield options, they are blessed in that department. Arsenal have Rosicky, Flamini, Arteta, Wilshere, Ramsey, Cazorla and Coquelin for those positions that is an abundance of talent already, probably they have the best squad depth in the midfield position. They also have the likes of Ozil, Sanchez, Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain to fill in the midfield positions, if there is a requirement, although the latter quartet are better suited to attacking options. There is just one position which needs strengthening in the midfield role and that is of a defensive midfielder. Arsenal cannot rely just on Coquelin or Flamini next season and should move now to get someone into the team.
The other position which actually needs strengthening is the forward position, Olivier Giroud is the best striker the club has but Danny Welbeck, Joel Campbell and Yaya Sanogo do not actually provide a lot of confidence to the Arsenal fans and Wenger should make it a priority to get another striker who can provide 15-20 goals per season. We all know Lacazette and Ayew are out of contract at Lyon and Marseille respectively, maybe Wenger can use his French connections to sign the pair up before any other team makes a move.
The defence was kind of taken care off in the winter transfer window with Gabriel Paulista coming in from Villareal and he did look good against Middlesbrough. Arsenal do not really require more talent in the defence as they have the likes of Mertesacker and Koscielny with Chambers and Monreal often deputising in the centre of defence, they could do with another young centre back but that could be taken care of from the youth system at Arsenal.
The goalkeeping position is the one of major concern, David Ospina has not looked brilliant in goal but maybe he just needs a little bit more time to acclimatize to the game while Wojciech Szczesny has often been at the receiving end from some Arsenal fans due to a few poor performances which has led him to be replaced by Ospina. Wenger could make a move for a goalkeeper who would provide real competition to the pair or even could sell Szczesny at the end of the season.
