What do Jonathan Woodgate, Steve McManaman, David Beckham and Michael Owen all have in common?
No, it’s not that they all made their careers in the Premiership.
No, it’s not that they have all played for England.
And apart from the fact they were all injured at one point in their career!
Well, obviously they have a lot in common, but what I was getting at, is that they are the only four English capped players to have played for Real Madrid.
But if Real boss Jose Mourinho gets his way, there will soon by a fifth name added to that small list.
Reports today have linked the Spanish giants with a move for our very own Jack Wilshere, and the rumours state they are willing to pay big money to lure him away from Arsenal.
The 19 year-old has turned into one of the Gunners’ best players over the past year or so, and even though he is currently out until the New Year with an ankle problem, he is expected to be a key fixture in Arsene Wenger’s line-up for the second half of the campaign and for many seasons to come.
Many believe he will go on to become a talisman for England too, and had just started to nail down a place in Fabio Capello’s preferred XI before his injury.
So would Wenger really sell his young starlet in January?
Especially after losing Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas in the summer.
Well it would certainly take a lot of cash to even make the Londoners think of letting him go.
And after all, who says Madrid does wonders for your career anyway?
Woodgate now plays for Stoke, Beckham for L.A Galaxy and Owen sits on the bench at Manchester United.
As for McManaman, he has funny hair.
And do you really want funny hair Jack?
I didn’t think so.
