Free-scoring striker Marcello Trotta could be on his way to a Championship club near you as an assortment of clubs are rumoured to be quietly interested, the kind of shyness which occurs in teenage love ah bless them, in taking the Fulham youngster on loan.
Young whippersnapper 19 year old Trotta had been at Wycombe for a short spell and it was his blazing hot streak of 8 goals in 8 games with them in League One that has made caught the eye of a few fire local fire services as well as Championship clubs after his return to Fulham.
Trotta decided not to extend his stay at Wycombe after netting two goals last weekend against Preston, stating his desire to test himself at a higher level. Watford, Southampton and Crystal Palace, whom Trotta is said to prefer due to cup availability, are all linked with the Italian forward who has been scoring goals since birth.
Of course that was a slight exaggeration but he was also in form for the Craven Cottage development squad before he was farmed out, hitting a selfish 5 goals in a single reserve game against Bolton. He had been part of the Manchester City academy before moving to Fulham where they rate him as “big, strong and powerful” whilst his openly-named desire to climb the leagues suggests this lad has ambition, making him a very sought-after product.
A loan move was expected to take place today but that is unlikely considering he only returned to his parent club on Tuesday (give him a bit of time for goodness sake!), whilst Fulham may even decide to hold onto his goal-finding capabilities. Rumours are abound that he has a GPS system locked onto his nearest set of goals, but all this page knows is that a few named Championship clubs are interested in taking his services for the short term.
In a totally unrelated-but-impossible-to-ignore rumour, Sol Campbell, remember him, the ex-Arsenal defender that resembled a big creaking wardrobe in recent spells with the Gunners and Newcastle? Yeah, ring a bell?
Well anyway, he has been linked with a move to Derby from somewhere in the ether with Nigel Clough apparently wanting to make use of the 37 year-olds knowhow to see them into the play-offs as well as providing experienced cover for Jason Shackell and Shaun Barker.
Make of that what you will. Campbell is currently a free agent, but it is unlikely he will make yet another return at that age.
