Performance of the week

This is a new weekly article to try and shine a light on the performance of the week by any player in the major European leagues.

The aim is too highlight their performance and give a quick review of their career so far.

Kicking off this feature I have gone for someone plying their trade right here in the English Premier League.

The inaugural ‘Performance of the Week’ award goes to West Ham United’s Victor Obinna.

Yes West Ham are still struggling down at the bottom of the league and there might have been a couple of outstanding performance’s worthy of the accolade elsewhere but having scored a hat-trick in the FA Cup last week and with every league game now becoming more important with every passing week of the season Obinna has firmly stepped up to the table.

Two goals last night – including a 30 yard screamer – helped move West Ham United off the bottom of the league and signalled their intent to fight until the very end.

Obinna started his career at Chievo in Italy before moving on to Internazionale. With an array of talent already at the San Siro club loan spells at Malaga and finally here at West Ham have seen Obinna pick up much needed first team football.

The Nigerian international has been a slow starter for West ham but with the team struggling against relegation it is maybe no surprise he has found it tough. One thing is for sure, if west Ham are to survive they will need this sort of performance.

Congratulations Victor Obinna.
