Sure Chelsea recorded an easy win over Birmingham in last night’s FA Cup replay, but that fixture is just the first of a potentially very successful run.
Roberto Di Matteo is not expected to fill the Stamford Bridge hotseat on a regular basis, but if his tempoary spell turns out to be a resounding success, Roman Abramovich may be tempted to stick with the stylish Italian.
Apart from three daunting trips to Eastlands, Anfield and The Emirates (all of which the Blues are never going to be out-right favourites for, regardless of form at any given time), the West London side have eight home games along with away games at Fulham and Villa, two clubs that are languising in mid-table mediocrity.
With the pressure off the Blues players, and their willingness to prove themselves to a potential new manager, don’t bet against a flourising finish to the highly talented side’s season and the renewal of Di Mattero’s contract.
