Redknapp hesitant on England

Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp admits he is unsure about whether to succeed Fabio Capello as England manager or not.

The Italian left his role with the national side last month of the same day Redknapp was acquitted of all tax charges.

Redknapp was instantly instilled as the bookies favourite and is thought to be at the head of the shortlist the Football Association has drawn up.

However, despite admitting it would be the ‘ultimate’ job leading the national side, the veteran tactician appears to be torn regarding the prospect of managing England.

“I’m not sure,” Redknapp said in an interview with L’Equipe when asked if he would like to manage England.

“I have a very good job at Tottenham today and I like it. But I do not know. We will wait and see.”

The 65-year-old insists he is enjoying life at White Hart Lane while admitting the rigours facing an international manager are different to those at club level.

“When you have a club, you are looking for a striker and you take them. When you’re coach, you must do with the players you have in your country,” he added.

“If you do not have a good scorer, you have none. And you almost never see the players. Two days every two months, it is very difficult.”
