Chelsea are certainly making the most of the transfer window thus far. First to arrive was Marko Marin from Werder Bremen, with the deal confirmed back in April. Next up it was Eden Hazard, who confirmed he was to move to the Champions League winners last week before the deal was announced on Monday.
Reports suggest FC Porto front-man Hulk will be the next to make the trip to Stamford Bridge. Yet, when it comes to South American strikers, there is one that many struggle to praise to high heaven and beyond; Edinson Cavani. The Napoli front-man has, again, enjoyed a supremely prolific season for the Serie A side, finishing with an impressive 33 goals in all competitions.
It is hardly surprising to see the 25-year-old linked with a move away from the Stadio San Paolo, made all the more likely with the failure to obtain Champions League football for the second season running. The perfect calibre of striker that could replace the outgoing Didier Drogba, Cavani ticks all the boxes that could see the Blues challenge for Premier League glory.
Some believe he wouldn’t have been as vital to Napoli had Marek Hamsik and Ezequiel Lavezzi not been playing such pivotal supporting roles, with many questioning whether he would receive similar service with the West London side. However, with Hazard, Marin and Juan Mata set to secure starting spots behind the striker next season, any front-man would struggle to not find the net with their collective talent providing the ammunition.
Reports suggest Chelsea have made tentative enquiries for his signature, hoping Napoli will drop their asking price for the striker, but if owner Roman Abramovich is prepared to spent anything upwards of £30m on a player to replace Drogba, Cavani is the man that will be worth every penny.
