It seems like every nine year old in Britain shares a dream with Usain Bolt, to one day line-up in the Manchester United colours, but it seems like the 6-time Olympic Gold Medallist is about to get his chance.
Bolt has long been a United fan, and Fergie may well use this to his advantage when the annual Real Madrid vs. Man United legends match kicks off next year. Bolt’s character and fame on the world stage would make the charity match even bigger than it currently is, as would give him the chance to line-up against the likes of Teddy Sheringham and Lee Sharpe, and do battle with Zidedine Zidane and co.
Man United have yet to replace Ryan Giggs on the left-wing, so should Bolt acquit himself well, maybe he might earn himself a deal at Old Trafford. He’d certainly be one of the first wingers to leave Micah Richards for dust in a foot race.
It is more likely to be publicity stunt than signing of the century, but a few shirt sales and a few extra tickets will be sold no doubt, and with Quinton Fortune in last year’s legends team, there is certainly room for someone like Bolt to have a play around for the Red Devils.
Bolt certainly likes a publicity stunt, during the Olympics, he turned up at a leisure centre in Uxbridge with his Jamaican team-mates, and politely asked for a game of 5-a-side. No prizes for guessing their answer.
So, don’t get your hopes up that Bolt will be turning up at Premier League stadiums in the real future, but we will all wait with baited breath to see whether anything comes of this opportunity in the Legends team in 2013.
Im sure we will all be hoping so.
