Zenit St Petersburg is the latest club to catch the headlines with a big money swoop to help boost their club. The current Russian champions have joined the exclusive group along with the likes of PSG, Chelsea, Man City and Real Madrid who have splashed out big on players to improve their squad.
The club have been backed by Russian energy giant Gazprom to spend £64million in capturing the signatures of Hulk and Axel Witsel. Along with the two signings from Porto, Zenit St Petersburg also boasts having the likes of Aleksandr Kerzhakov, Bruno Alves and Danny in their squad.
The stand out signing for the club has to be the 26 year old Brazilian Hulk who in May was holding talks with Chelsea. After seeing glimpses of him at the Olympics in London this man can be ‘Incredible’ without growing in size and becoming green.
Hulk has impressive strength which may be because of his name sake and natural ability on the ball. He also knows where the goal is scoring 54 goals in 103 experiences for Porto.
Zenit’s other signing Axel Witsel is slightly less well known than Hulk and therefore may be unfairly overlooked. He perhaps needs an adopted Marvel nickname as well although his attempt of a Fellaini hairdo helps him stand out. Witsel an attacking midfielder he has been capped 30 times for Belgium so he has international experience on his side to help Zenit achieve big things.
What stands out as being significant about this is that a small and lesser known club such as Zenit St Petersburg have managed to sign Hulk, after pretty much every club in Europe has previously being linked with the forward. This must mean that their intentions are ambitious, therefore don’t be surprised to see more well known players heading up north in Europe to Russia.
