While the reports have been denied by current club Santos, speculation is still suggesting that Brazilian striking sensation Neymar could be set for a move to Barcelona. The rumours indicate that any deal wouldn’t happen until after the 2014 World Cup, but it would be a major coup for the La Liga giants if it is true.
The young striker has shot to prominence over recent years and despite being just 20 years of age, recently made his 200th appearance for Santos. Understandably, interest is high in Neymar, but despite the likes Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester United all chasing his signature; the Catalan giants are believed to be the likely destination for the Brazil international.
Now, you may be thinking what could Barcelona, arguably the most potently attacking side, could do with another striker? Well, despite the abundance of talent available to Tito Vilanova, Neymar is one of those players that would only strengthen their front-line.
In terms of capability, the 20-year-old is second only to Lionel Messi and comfortably usurps the likes of Pedro, David Villa and Alexis Sanchez, who has been linked with a move away from the Camp Nou to free up funds for Neymar’s move, when relating to talent and potential.
However, it can, effectively, be classified as cheating, in the lightest sense of the word. I mean, a striking trident consisting of both Messi and Neymar? It’d be like Diego Maradona and Pele playing together during the peak of their respective careers.
Either way, if Barca can secure the signature of Neymar, it would be a massive statement of intent for the Catalan giants, with the Brazilian one of only a handful of players to improve what can already be described as the strongest attacking line-up in football at present.
