Harry Redknapp, never shy of an opinion or two, has told BBC Sport that only “a real dope” could not succeed at Chelsea. This, in the wake of his team’s game at Stamford Bridge against the Champions League holders tonight, is obviously a cunning ploy to get out of any blame for his team getting walloped.
Might Harry be a touch jealous? And is there a possibility he is slowly beginning to realise what an average squad of players he has and the size of the task in front of him? Or maybe this is the start of his application for the manager’s job at Stamford Bridge. After all he is a bit dopey but not a real dope.
I knew that Harry might live to regret taking the job at Queens Park Rangers but I didn’t think that he’d be so obviously touting for business elsewhere so soon. The start of his interview with Roman Abramovich might go something like this, “Roman, all of your other managers had a squad full of brilliant players and failed because they were daft. However, I failed with a squad full of bad players but I’m very smart. Why don’t you hire me?”
I think that Mr Redknapp ought to concentrate on the job that he has to do instead of suggesting that other managers are stupid. I’m not convinced it’s the best thing to do before you play someone, especially in a game where there is a serious chance that you will end up looking pretty stupid yourself. Good luck Harry.
