As Newcastle United continue their impressive fall from grace, the defeat to Everton saw question marks begun to be asked over the future of manager Alan Pardew. The Magpies have been severely suffering this season after many had tipped them to secure a top four finish after their impressive campaign last year.
In the end, it was a Victor Anichebe winner in the second half that saw them succumb to a 2-1 defeat to leave them perilously close to the relegation zone, despite Papiss Cisse netting early on to give the hosts the initiative on the evening.
However, the goal of the evening is certainly reserved for Leighton Baines. The England international netted an absolutely stunning free kick in the first half that saw Twitter implode in an array of praise for the Everton man.
Baines struck his effort from all of 30-yards straight into the top corner which gave Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul absolutely no chance of keeping his effort out, such was the power and technical ability behind the effort.
While it leaves the Magpies lingering dangerously close to the bottom three, the 28-year-old’s effort was thoroughly deserving following the pressure Everton placed on Newcastle.
