Ashley Cole is largely expected to be on his way out of Chelsea at the end of the season after failing to agree a new contract at the Bridge, but how do you replace one of the greatest left-backs to ever play the role?
Cole began his footballing life in the prestigious Arsenal academy and quickly went in to make a name for himself. His solid displays earned him a call up to the first team and he never looked back, appearing over 200 times for the club. In his time in a Gunners shirt he was a big impact on them winning 2 Premier League trophies, 3 FA Cups and 2 Community Shields before he moved to London rivals Chelsea in 2006, much to the delight of Arsenal fans.
He continues to receive a hostile reception when the two teams meet but since he made the switch to Stamford Bridge he has won 4 FA Cups, the Premier League trophy, The League Cup, 1 Community shield and the Champions League. Not bad, eh?
His rapid pace compliments his attacking prowess and he is often found bombing down the wing in support of his midfield colleagues, whipping crosses into the box. Unlike so many in this day and age his attempts at going forward fails to hinder his defensive qualities and he has established himself as one of the best in the world.
After almost 300 appearances for Chelsea and 99 for England, wherever Cole ends up this summer one thing is for sure, the fans will remember him with nothing but fondness.
