Kaboul’s return is good news for Spurs

In the weekly pre-match press conference, managers often reveal who is close to returning from injury, especially after a lengthy layout. This was very much the case for Andre Villas-Boas, with the Tottenham Hotspur head coach confirming that Younes Kaboul is set to return to training on Monday after sitting out the last five months of the season with a knee injury.

The Frenchman has been imperative at the heart of the Spurs defence during his second stint at the club after initially struggling for consistency following his arrival from Auxerre in in 2007, before being sold to Portsmouth.

However, a season alongside William Gallas and Ledley King last season saw the 27-year-old come on leaps and bounds, endearing himself to the fans before becoming one of the first names on the teamsheet.

This season, prior to his knee injury, was supposed to be the one where Kaboul undertakes the mantle of first choice defender, effectively forming a dynamic and resolute partnership with summer arrival Jan Vertonghen.

While many have been biting at the chomp, eager to see the French ‘Freightrain’ back in action, it’s vital that he isn’t rushed back into action. Nevertheless, news of his return from the sidelines will only be good for the club as they look to secure a place in the Champions League next season.
