After reports on Tuesday suggested that Chelsea have offered midfielder Frank Lampard a new contract, rumours Ron Gourlay confirmed, the Blues chief executive also hinted a “two or three new players” arriving once the transfer rumour reopens at the end of the season.
While it’s of vital importance that the 34-year-old is re-signed on a new deal, rumours of who the players Gourlay was discussing is likely to send the rumour mill into overdrive. Chelsea are supposedly keen on making a number of big name signings over the summer.
Radamel Falcao has been courted by the club in the past and is believed to be the top target for the west London side. The Columbia international has been in imperious form for Atletico Madrid over recent months, with the La Liga outfit understandably keen on holding onto their prized frontman.
However, the rumours as to who else they’ve been tracking remains a mystery. Stevan Jovetic and Neymar have both been linked with big money moves to Stamford Bridge in the past and are again being mooted as possible targets, especially with Fernando Torres expected to depart.
Either way, the supposed targets are expected to be revealed as the transfer window edges closer to reopening, as Chelsea look to put a miserable campaign behind them and rebuild for next year.
