It turns out that Bayern Munich were so overjoyed with their drubbing of Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final last night that the team coach left the ground without Javi Martinez.
The Bavarian side were quick to pack their bags and wheel away in jubilation but Javi Martinez, a Spanish international, was still saying his goodbyes to his companions in the Barcelona roster at the time.
Maybe they were trying to tell him something.
The midfielder returned to find an empty away dressing room and needed a cab to reunite him with his colleagues later that night, but only after Bayern officials stumped up for the fee.
The Camp Nou side had supposedly bid for Martinez before he upped sticks and signed at the Allianz-Arena from La Liga side Athletic Bilbao last summer so I am sure they wouldn’t have mind keeping him for themselves.
Still only 24, Martinez was part of the Spain squad which won the World Cup in 2010 and the European Championship in 2012, and of course helped guide Bayern to the Bundesliga title in the current campaign.
Perhaps if he was as good with his time keeping as he is with the ball at his feet then he wouldn’t have been the laughing stock of the Bayern squad.
