Rafa Benitez has finally snapped at the continual chitter-chatter that he will be replaced as Chelsea boss by Jose Mourinho at the end of the season.
The Spaniard has had his work cut out since arriving at the Bridge after he replaced one the club’s long serving heroes at the helm, Roberto Di Matteo. He also had history with the Blues from when he was in charge of Liverpool, and despite guiding Chelsea to a current position of third he is still despised by the supporters and will be leaving west London at the end of the season.
It is a shame. The man’s reputation has taken a battering that hasn’t been deserved, in my opinion, and he has handled it in a dignified manner.
That was until Jose Mourinho did what he does best and started stirring up rumours. The Portuguese coach is widely expected to leave the Santiago Bernabeu when the La Liga season comes to a close and he has started hinting that a deal to take him back to the Bridge is already in place.
Benitez has this to say about the smug Madrid coach: “Each manager has his way. My way is to concentrate on the game. That is it.”
Chelsea go toe-to-toe with Swiss outfit Basel this evening for a spot in the Europa League final.
